Chief Operating Officer
Ian Gibson serves HMH as Chief Operating Officer. He joined the hospital from Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches, Texas, where he served as Associate Administrator since April 2021, overseeing operations of several departments. He previously served as Physician Development Manager for Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, Texas, developing physician relations, referrals, and growing the primary care footprint for the hospital. Ian has 13 years of healthcare experience. He holds both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters of Business Administration from Baylor University. He enjoys being active in the local community and looks forward to settling in East Texas.

Paul Hanson is an accomplished Operations Executive and the newly appointed Chief Financial Officer at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. He has a proven track record of driving business innovation and growth in the healthcare industry, with extensive managerial experience in healthcare administration. Paul is a results-oriented leader, skilled in financial planning, cost reduction, and cash flow optimization. He has a strong background in building relationships, leading teams, and implementing effective strategies that enhance productivity and organizational performance. Paul is committed to delivering excellent patient care and achieving sustainable financial results. He is excited to return to his home state of Texas and contribute to the growth and success of Huntsville Memorial Hospital.

Jennifer Guinn has served as the Executive Director of Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management at Huntsville Memorial Hospital since March 2023. Over the past decade, she has held multiple leadership roles within the organization, developing a deep understanding of hospital operations, regulatory standards, and patient safety. Jennifer is dedicated to fostering a culture of quality and accountability while ensuring compliance with all state and federal healthcare requirements. Her collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement have helped strengthen organizational performance and support excellence in patient care.

Bonnie Bowen serves as Human Resources Director for HMH. She joined the hospital’s leadership team in July 2020. She has served in hospital-based HR leadership roles since 2007 within several systems including Triad, Community Health Systems, and Strategic Behavioral Health. She holds both a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University’s Mays College of Business and the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from HRCI.

Joe Sapp is a director of the Walker County Hospital District (WCHD) Board of Managers and serves as the WCHD representative on the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Born and raised in Conroe, Texas, Sapp received his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Texas. He completed his residency in Hospital Pharmacy at Harris Hospital. Sapp holds 49 years of experience in the field. He worked 13 years in retail pharmacy before serving 23 years as the Director of Pharmacy at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. He also spent 12 years with UTMB Correctional Managed Care Pharmacy. Sapp is a graduate of the Huntsville Leadership Institute. He also served as a past board member of the City of Huntsville Board of Adjustments and Appeals, and on the board of the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

Trey Young M.D., raised in Huntsville, TX, is a local physician caring for both adults and children in the primary care setting. Dr. Young graduated with honors from Texas A&M in Biomedical Engineering. He received his Medical Degree in 2017 from The University of Texas in Houston. Following Medical School, he stayed at UT Houston to complete a combined residency in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. He is now a dual board-certified physician, and has been practicing in Huntsville since 2021.

Joe Thomason is Community Hospital Corporation’s (CHC) representative on the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Thomason is Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations for CHC. He Received a Bachelor of Business degree from West Texas State University. He then obtained a Master of Business Administration and Health Organization Management degree from Texas Tech University. Thomason has 30 years of experience in hospital operations and administration. He has served as a Chief Operating Officer for a Tenet Hospital in El Paso, Texas, Chief Executive Officer for Centennial Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and Chief Executive Officer of RHD Memorial Medical Center in Dallas, and Brownsville Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

Ray Hernandez is president and CEO of the Partnership Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce and was recently the President/CEO of Walker County Chanber of Commerce. He graduated with Honors from Southwest Texas State University, received Economic Development training from Texas A&M University-College Station, and graduated with Honors (Innovation 88) from the University of Texas-Austin LBJ School of Public Affairs. Hernandez served in the U.S. Army, as a Board Regent for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organizational Management program, a Vice President of Communications for the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives, and as a Board Member for the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Sean Carpenter is Executive Vice President and Trust Division Manager at First National Bank of Huntsville where he has worked since 2009. Born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Texas Tech University in 2008 and a Masters of Business Administration Concentration in Banking and Financial Institutions from Sam Houston State University in 2012. Sean currently sits on the EMBA Advisory Council at Sam Houston State University, he serves as Vice President for the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville and has served as a past board member and treasurer of the Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce.

Christy Atkins is the Manager of Climatec Secure Storage, a family-owned business, and a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Agricultural Business. She has been actively involved in serving the Walker County community through civic, educational, and nonprofit leadership, including serving as the 2025 Chair of the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, service on the Alpha Omega Academy Board of Trustees, and involvement with the Huntsville Junior Service League. Christy is honored to serve on the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Board, supporting the hospital’s mission of providing quality healthcare to the communities it serves. She and her husband, Wade, have two children and are proud to call Huntsville home.
