3D / TOMO Mammography
One of the most exciting things offered in our facility is 3-D/TOMO mammograms,
which may provide a more accurate picture of a woman's breast health
than traditional mammograms. Conventional mammography captures breast
images from two different angles. The 3-D scanner, however, rotates in
an arc over the patient and captures images from various angles. The additional
angles here give doctors greater insight into the patient's breast
health and can help identify small tumors and reduce false positives.
According to the American Cancer Society, women over the age of 40 should
receive a yearly screening mammogram and conduct monthly self-exams in
between. In addition to 3-D/TOMO mammograms, the Women's Center will
be offering ultrasound and Dexa scans.
