Huntsville Memorial Hospital Announces New CEO Patrick Shannon

Former Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Chief Operating Officer Takes Helm at Huntsville Memorial Hospital

Huntsville and Beaumont, Texas (September 15, 2021) – The Huntsville Memorial Hospital (HMH) Board of Directors has announced Patrick J. Shannon, FACHE, as the new Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, effective September 16, 2021. He has been the HMH Interim CEO since June 14, 2021, and is the former Chief Operating Officer for Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas (BHSET), Beaumont, Texas.

Shannon’s announcement follows a CEO search conducted by Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) of Plano, Texas. HMH and BHSET are part of the CHC family of hospitals.

Among Shannon’s notable contributions while at BHSET:
- Managed the growth of several ancillary, diagnostic and procedural services.
- Facilitated the organization's first Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- Created new relationships, including the Clinical Affiliation Agreement with the University of Texas Medical Branch for the provision of needed surgical specialties.
- Acted as Incident Commander during several, severe Southeast Texas area hurricanes.

Shannon’s prior executive roles include: Chief Operating Officer for Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner, LA for three years; Vice President of Surgical Services, Ochsner Medical Center, New Orleans, LA for five years; and Administrator at HCA’s Surgical Center of El Paso and East El Paso Surgery Center, El Paso, TX. He holds a Master of Science, Health Services Administration, St. Francis University, Joliet, IL, a Master of Business Administration (Healthcare concentration) from Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, LA, and a Bachelor of General Studies, from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. His military career includes Deputy Commanding Officer (Colonel), 3rd Medical Training Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, TX (since February 2015).

Jim Jenkins, HMH Chief Financial Officer, joined the organization in November of 2020. Prior, he served as Interim CFO for St. Joseph Medical Center, a 700+ bed hospital in Houston. Jenkins’ financial healthcare experience has focused on Accounting Operations, Strategic Initiatives, Process Improvement and Service Line Development with companies such as UMASS Memorial Healthcare, HCA, and Steward Healthcare.

Ian Gibson, HMH Chief Operating Officer, began this role in July of 2021. Gibson joined HMH from Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches, Texas, where he has served as Associate Administrator since April 2021, overseeing operations of several departments. He joined NMC in June 2016 as the Director of Strategy, and prior served as Physician Development Manager for Centennial Medical Center of Frisco, Texas.

Linda Lawson, MSN, RN, HACP, HMH Chief Nursing Officer, joined the organization in May of 2020, after serving as Interim CNO since February of that year. Prior, she was CNO at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, Nacogdoches, TX, where she led a staff of 650 employees with oversight of Medical, Surgical/Children, Oncology Nursing, Quality and Risk Management, Case Management, Laboratory, Physical Therapy, Radiological Services and the Acute Rehabilitation Unit.
