Emergency Care

About the Emergency Department

The Huntsville Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, a Level IV Trauma Center, currently serves Walker County and surrounding communities, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, providing treatment for acute illness, injury or trauma.

The Emergency Department team is led by board-certified Emergency Physicians and Certified Emergency Nurses (R.N.s). Our lead physicians and physician assistants are certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support. All of our medical staff members hold certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The medical staff maintains proficiency and on-going education in the areas of cardiology, pediatrics and trauma - just to name a few. Staying current in different areas of treatment and intervention allows our team to provide quality care to our patients.

The HMH Emergency Department also offers state-of-the- art laboratory, radiology and cardiopulmonary equipment and services.

Providing Up-to-the-Minute Care

Upon arriving at the Emergency Department, each patient is assessed and evaluated by a Registered Nurse in order to determine the urgency of the illness or injury. The most critically ill or severely injured patients will be seen immediately. All patients will be seen as soon as possible depending on the volume of patients receiving care at that time.

It is important to know when to visit an Emergency facility, check your symptoms to determine whether you have an emergency illness or injury.
