Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Huntsville Memorial Hospital is now performing bariatric weight loss surgery to assist obese patients to reach a healthier weight and healthier lifestyle.

Obesity is defined as having an abnormal or excessive body fat accumulation. As of 2010, 34% of United States adults were obese, which is over 1/3 of the population. Obesity and obesity-related diseases can cause a host of health complications, and can impact nearly every organ in the body. They are a leading cause of disability and death in Americans.

In recognizing the needs of our patients, Huntsville Memorial Hospital has established a multidisciplinary Bariatric Program, including pre-surgery counseling, nutrition education, post-surgical care, and support groups. Our staff is committed to walk alongside you in your journey to a healthier and happier lifestyle. You can rest assured in the level of care you will receive, as our facility is recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation in affiliation with Dr. Urmil Shukla of the Texas Surgery Center.

If you or a loved one struggles with obesity, please contact our Bariatric Coordinator, Lori Dupere, RN at 936-291-4318 for more information and to sign up to attend a Bariatric Seminar.
